OUR ANNUAL ARTS CAMPAIGN
Annual Substance Abuse Awareness Campaigns Through the Arts
We feel that spreading awareness through positivity by using a creative and constructive approach, rather than simply proclaiming rules, would appeal to the teenage audience that may not be receptive to traditional awareness campaigns. To that end, every year, the RVC Youth Council organizes a substance abuse awareness campaign through the arts where we spread awareness through art.
Each year we conduct a "sticker shock" campaign. Various stickers are developed with the Youth Council message and then students deliver an inventory of the stickers to various take-out food establishments in Rockville Centre to be put on the carry-out containers or bags. Businesses who participate in this program include pizza and Chinese restaurants, bagel shops, bakeries, and several others.
Thanks to the Drug-Free Community grant awarded to the RVC Coalition for Youth, the RVC Youth Council, is able to design billboards and mount them in the Rockville Centre area to promote our substance prevention message.
